Not long ago we told you how to use LibreOffice effectively to be more productive with this office suite that Ubuntu offers us for free. In the past we talked about the entire suite in general, however today we are going to tell you four tricks for LibreOffice Calc that will allow us to have professional spreadsheets or at least that is how it will appear to our friends.
These tricks are not the only ones that exist, there are more and there are even certain Easter eggs that will allow us to play with the spreadsheet or simply meet the developers of this software.
Conditioned cells
LibreOffice Calc allows us to mark certain cells in such a way that depending on the answer, other cells perform a certain function, be it the sum, change the background color, display a text, etc ... It is something very practical for use spreadsheets as professional forms or simple choice questionnaires. To do this we only have to mark the cell and go to Menu -> Conditional formatting. There a menu with the options will be displayed, the Conditional 1 options allow us to select which condition to develop and in Conditional 2 the consequences at the moment they occur.
Protect a sheet or book
LibreOffice Calc allows us protect documents naturally without the need for any add-on software. To do this we just have to go to Menu–> Protect Document–> Sheet or document. In the window we mark the option to protect and below we enter the password and confirm it. Then we press ok and that's it. Now, do not forget the password because there will be no way to recover it.
Navigator
This trick will not turn our spreadsheets into professionals but it will will improve our productivity significantly. LibreOffice Calc allows us to navigate visually thanks to a hidden side panel. To show it we just have to go to Menu -> View -> Browser. This panel shows us not only the sheets but also the macros, graphics and various elements that the sheets or documents have.
Record and play
LibreOffice Calc allows us record all the activity of our spreadsheets and replay it whenever we want, something interesting if we want to show the operation of a spreadsheet or a specific macro. To record we only have to go to Menu -> Tools -> Macros -> Record Macros -> We do everything we have to do and then we press the button «stop recording» -> We save the macro with a certain name.
When we want to reproduce what is recorded we just have to go to Menu–> Tools -> Macros–> Run Macros -> Take the recorded macro–> Run.
Conclusion
LibreOffice Calc does not have nothing to envy to other spreadsheet applications like Microsoft's Excel. These functions are a small sample of what it can actually do, but there is much more. As with the other LibreOffice applications.
