5 Free Alternatives to OneNote for Ubuntu

OneNote

Note apps have evolved over the years to become an interesting, useful, and important app. One of the most popular note apps among Microsoft users is OneNote, an application that integrates with Office and that many users use when they do not know more about or use Microsoft environments. But What if we switch to Ubuntu? What alternatives are there in Ubuntu to OneNote? Can OneNote be used?

Regrettably there is no native OneNote application for Ubuntu, although it seems that in a few years there will be such a thing. Meanwhile we indicate 5 applications that we can use in Ubuntu and that work perfectly as substitutes for OneNote or better yet.

Evernote

It is true that there is no Evernote for Ubuntu but thanks to Google Chrome we can create a shortcut of your web application. Evernote is a more complete application than OneNote, although in recent months many of these functions have been transferred to its paid version, so if we are looking for a free program, Evernote may not be the best option. In any case, through the official website you can get both versions and access to the web application.

Google Keep

Google Keep is another great replacement for OneNote, but just like Evernote, does not have an application for Ubuntu. However, we can use Google Chrome to create a shortcut for the web application. Google Keep is free, but it doesn't have as many features as Evernote or OneNote. But if you have great synchronization with smartphone and calendar, being able to make reminders jump when we arrive at a place, at a certain time or even with time (if we know the world of APIs).

Tomboy

Tomboy is an application very old and very simple. If we are really only looking to write post-it notes, tomboy is the best option. It integrates seamlessly with Ubuntu and is available from the official Ubuntu repositories. That yes, it has not been updated for months and You will not find an interface that is too updated or powerful.

tiddlywiki

tiddlywiki it is not a program but rather a web application or a wiki that collects notes. Can be installed locally if we install LAMP in our Ubuntu and use it through the web browser. It's one of the best note-taking apps out there but its learning curve is too high and it will take us a long time to learn to use such an environment. Tiddlywiki is free and we can find it through official website.

never note

Nevernote was created as an unofficial Evernote client for Gnu / Linux and little by little it is becoming a standalone application. Nevernote is based on Java to work and that makes it a bit slow in its operation but it wins it with a simple and very intuitive interface that helps us to take notes very quickly. Some time ago we explained how to install and configure Nevernote on your Ubuntu.

Conclusion

It's hard to find a replacement for OneNote as they are all tough rivals for Microsoft's app. If I had to choose one, it would possibly be Evernote, due to its integration with other applications and with the world of the smartphone, but if we only want to have notes on our computer, because it is a work pc, the best solution without a doubt is Tomboy: fast, simple and very powerful. In any case, as I always tell you, you better try, because what works for me may not work for you. Do not you think?

A very easy-to-use note app is SIMPLENOTE, from WordPress. It can be installed as a .deb file or as a snap directly from the Ubuntu snap store.
The best, its synchronization with its version for Android and the possibility of using the Markdown language.

I like to use OneNote because I take notes with a pencil (Wacom tablet). In linux there is little little little…. the app I use to take the notes is Xournal, the pity is that I lose sharing the notes with the tablet….

Simplenote without a doubt. It is compatible with all OS and also with all mobile OS, so you can immediately share a note between all your devices at the same time.
