Given the recent launch of Ubuntu 19.04 'Disco Dingo', the system images have been deployed for a few days. for clean or new installations, as well as the pertinent notifications for users of previous versions of the system.

It is because of that Today we will give some of the positive points of why it is advisable to update or install this new version of Ubuntu 19.04 'Disco Dingo' on our computers.

Fractional scaling for HiDPI displays

Una of the novelties that caught the attention of many (and also to a server) was the support in the desktop environment of the system (Gnome) to be able to support andl HiDPI scaling,

Where we can choose between 100% and 200% of scale on many screens.

Gnome's fractional scaling works on the new Wayland display server, so to make use of fractional scaling we must change our session to Wayland.

Already being in session with Wayland, now we must enable the function. We can do this from a terminal by typing the following:

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-framebuffer']"

Appearance

The new version of Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo uses a new wallpaper and an updated Yaru GTK / icon theme.

Yaru's icon set changes from a unified 'squircle' shape to a loosely blended icon shape, greatly improving the look of the app's screen, now consistent

On the icon theme, the new Adwaita icon set can be installed from the repositories if you want to try it out.

This is done by keyboard:

sudo apt install adwaita-icon-theme

And to make the change we must make use of Tweak Tools.

Up-to-date software

Another benefit of updating to the new version of Ubuntu is that we can count on the most recent packages.

Including The Gnome 3.32 desktop environment and with all its features stand out.

Where it offers a large number of functions, night intensity control, round user avatars, faster access to Google Drive and advanced application licenses.

And also the new version of Nautilus which includes support for file collections, this without forgetting Kernel 5.0 which adds many improvements not only to the system but also to the compatibility of hardware and graphics drivers.

Where various graphics cards are benefited as well as APIs, such as Vulkan, DXVK.

Tools

On Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo an option has been added to the configuration tool to enable location detection (through geographic signals) and the LivePatch service Canonical has better integration (although the feature itself is only supported in the LTS version).

In addition to GS connect (which has not yet been implemented in this version) which is a useful extension that allows you to connect your Android phone to Ubuntu wirelessly.

The GSconnect plugins are available in the system repositories and the files are easy to configure.

Higher performance

Unlike previous versions of Ubuntu that have had Gnome 3 as the desktop environment, Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo has higher performance and improvements in terms of resource management is concerned.

And it is something that should be highlighted not only because it is a new version that comes with all the patches and updates that were previously released to solve the serious cases of memory consumption and leaks that were made known during the past year.

But It is worth noting that Gnome 3.32 arrives with the performance improvements they are what some consider the main characteristic.

And this is because the developers have worked on the key components of the interface from GNOME, such as GNOME Shell and Mutter, to speed up the experience.

As a result, windows now respond more quickly to clicks.

Lubuntu 19 gives problems with wifi connectivity the configuration interface seems outdated and reminds of Windows 3.1
