Five ways to use Telegram on your Ubuntu PC

Web_Telegram

We all know which messaging app is the most used in the world. To refresh your memory, this is WhatsApp, an application that was acquired by Facebook not too long ago. WhatsApp is the most used application because it came at the right time, but there are other applications that are much better in practically everything. Telegram is one of them and, of course, has a version compatible with Ubuntu and virtually any operating system.

Telegram allows us to send any type of file, create cats secrets with self-destruction and almost everything we can ask of a messaging app, except calls at the time of writing. In addition, since the first time I used it and in any of its versions, Telegram has always worked faster and more fluid than many other applications. In addition, it has other properties that we like the most geeks.

Why use Telegram?

In addition to all of the above, there are more reasons such as:

  1. Is open source.
  2. Es insurance.
  3. It is and will always be free y Whithout ads.

If you've already made up your mind and want to use Telegram on your Ubuntu computer, here are the 5 promised possibilities.

Five ways to use Telegram in Ubuntu

Telegram Web

It sounds the same as the web version of WhatsApp, but it is totally different. Like the rest of Telegram applications, its versión web It is a totally independent instance of our phone, so we can chat from the browser without having to link anything with our mobile. That is comfort.

Website: web.telegram.org

Chrome app

If you are Chrome users or its version open source Chromium, there is a application for your browser that will allow you to access and chat on Telegram. Once we open it, we can separate the window and have it as any other application, more or less like Google Hangouts. We don't even have to open the main browser to use the Chrome app.

Install: Telegram for Chrome

Firefox extension

If you are Firefox users, you also have an extension available. The difference is that we will not be able to use it as an application like in Chrome, but it will be well at hand and a little more comfortable than the web version.

Install: Telegram for Firefox

Pidgin plugin

If you use Pidgin, you don't have to look for an alternative. You just have to install the Plugin for Telegram and add your account in it. To do this, we will do the following.

  1. We add the webupd8 repository:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
  1. We update the sources:
sudo apt-get update
  1. And we install the plugin:
sudo apt-get install telegram-purple

Once we have installed it, we only have to enter by adding our account from the Pidgin settings Accounts / Manage Accounts.

Official app

And, logically, we also have the official app for Linux. To do this, just go to desktop.telegram.org, download the application and run the Telegram file, which will install it and put it in the corresponding place, depending on the distribution in which we install it.

Which of the 5 above options is your favorite? Or do you have another more interesting one? Feel free to comment by leaving your opinion.

Guys, a note about Telegram is good and that they offer several ways to use it so that each one can choose the one that suits them best. But it seems to me that it was not difficult to find the best version of the app for Telegram in Chrome ...

I use Telegram since it came out, apart from the encryption security that its servers have in Europe, so you forget about the NSA and company methods, little by little they have added things like Stickers, but the great thing is that I have it on 4 devices associated with my phone, an Ubuntu-phone, an android, computer and laptop, the cane. My whole family has it and uses it, I don't want WhatsApp or paint.
but as I say you can always choose….

I use the native version for GNU / Linux and the truth is that it is very comfortable. I do not need to have to look at the mobile as happens for example with WhatsApp, apart from that it is more fluid and secure.
The truth is that he goes around the latter a thousand times.

I normally use whatsapp, only a few days ago I installed telegram on my mobile and it is much faster than what and with much better security features so it has become my favorite
It only has one thing that prevents it from completely deleting WhatsApp: it does not have voice calls
The day you add voice calls, the competition just disappears
And it should also have a .deb-type installer to make things easier for all of us who use linux base debian, the issue of unzipping the tar.xz not all handle it well
