Canonical releases Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine and all its official flavors

Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine now available

Canonical ha released Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine, the October 2019 version of the operating system it develops, along with new versions of all its official flavors. At present, these flavors are Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Studio and Ubuntu Kylin, but in the future so will Ubuntu Cinnamon. This is a normal cycle release supported for 9 months that comes six months after Disco Dingo.

Considering that we are talking about a general release, it is difficult to say something that all operating systems include as a novelty. Yes we can mention that they use Linux 5.3, the version of the Linux kernel that was released in September. For everything else, most of the news are related to the specific distribution or its graphical environment. We can also say that the most outstanding novelty of Ubuntu (standard) is its speed.

Ubuntu 19.10 will be supported until July 2020

The speed of Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine is not a feature that will reach the rest of the family. This is a performance improvement derived from GNOME 3.34, the graphical environment used by the latest version of Ubuntu. The rest of the flavors also include new versions of their graphical environments, including Kubuntu a plasma 5.16 that remains at the gates of the great launch that took place two days ago. Of course, we can install Plasma 5.17 on Kubuntu by adding the KDE Backports repository.

The Eoan Ermine family will be supported until July 2020. Three months before, in April, there will be another release, in this case an Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa that will be an LTS version supported for 5 years. Although Eoan Ermine is an independent release, it has been said that it is the first step towards a next version that will include many important improvements, such as the ZFS as root already implemented to 100%.

In any case, especially for all of us who use normal versions, download and enjoy it!
