I hate, listen to radio stations from different parts of the world

about hate

In the next article we will take a look at Hate. This is a free multiplatform radio streaming software that offers more than 20.000 radio stations of all the world. The app takes these radio stations, I think all of them, from the web radio browser.

This application will be able to run in any graphical desktop environment. For Ubuntu we will be able to choose either to use an .AppImage file or its snap package. When we start it, we will find a large radio of radio stations, with a beautiful and easy-to-use environment.

General characteristics of hate

I hate radios by countries

  • In the program interface we will find few options to configure. Anyone will know how to use it From the first moment.
  • In the section entitled 'stations by' can be searched radio stations by country, language and labels. Any of the search options will be able to be classified alphabetically, in ascending or descending order, or by the number of stations available for each country.
  • You can also find a search service to help you locate stations.
  • We will be able add our favorite stations to the option "my library". This is the place where you will be able to find the stations as you add them.
  • At the bottom of the window, you can see a standard volume slider, pause / play and buttons to change stations.

i hate dark theme settings

  • In addition, there is a setup menu in which we will only find an option to switch between a light or dark theme.

Hate install on Ubuntu

download appimage hate

For Ubuntu the developer offers a file AppImage (32 and 64 bit) that facilitates the execution of the software.

AppImage is a format for distributing portable software on Gnu / Linux without the need for superuser permissions to install the application. All that is needed is to download this file in question and make it executable typing in terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T):

chmod u+x ./odio-1.4.0-x86_64.AppImage

After this, when you run the file for the first time, you will see the question appear on the screen whether or not you want to integrate the AppImage with your system. By accepting, hate is added to the application menu and the icons are installed. This we will have to accept it as many radio transmissions would otherwise not play on your computer.

Once the integration is selected, the application will create a directory in ~ / .config / hate. There it goes store your cache and settings so that everything works properly.

If you prefer use snap packages, you can follow the instructions that you will find in snapcrapt.io. For this installation, you need to have snapd running on the system in which you want to install this application. For the installation you just have to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write in it:

install hate snap

sudo snap install odio

After finishing the installation, you can look for the launcher via Ubuntu desktop:

A first look at hate

When the application is launched, you will see an interface like the following appear on the screen.

hate interface

In the sidebar, at the top is where you will find 'my library'. This is where the stations that we mark as favorites will be found. You can bookmark a station by doing click the heart icon that appears when hovering the mouse over a station. That action adds the station to your library. You can edit your library, unfortunately there is still no option to rearrange the added stations.

It also can view a station profile thanks to the second icon that can be seen when hovering over a station. Some stations have multiple entrances. In those cases, looking at the station's profile will allow you to choose the stream with the highest bit rate or it can also give you the option to listen to that station using the web browser.

This program may be missing some functions, but to listen to radio stations from a lot of countries it does the job perfectly. For more information you can turn to his repository on GitHub or project website.

It no longer works. He used to do it but, a few days ago, he no longer does it. You cannot choose Language, or view stations, or add them, or anything. A fiasco !!
