Ubuntu 24.10 already has a code name, and I'm sure you can "guess it right away"

Ubuntu 24.10 Oracular Oriole

Last Thursday we had new version of Ubuntu. After that moment, Canonical and its partners take a break, although it usually lasts only a short time. A few days later they reveal to us what the code name of the next installment will be, and a little later they upload the first Daily Build and real development begins. The first has already happened, and therefore we already know the codename he will use Ubuntu 24.10. In fact, the adjective He was known since Friday.

Oracular Oriole. What is this? "Oracular" is relative to an oracle, in short something or someone who gives us answers as a guide, sometimes in the form of a prediction. "Oriole" in Spanish is "oriol", also the European oriole (Oriolus oriolus), which according to Wikipedia "is a species of passerine bird of about 25 cm, from the family Oriolidae. It is typical of the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. Therefore, a bird that is related to divination will guide us.

Ubuntu 24.10 Oracular Oriole

If someone is looking for a meaning to the nameActually, I don't think it has it. Some see ghosts where there are none or suffer from pareidolia. For example, they have even said that the recently released Noble Numbat has received that name for something related to the 20th anniversary, and it may be, but also the opposite. On the other hand, Focal Fossa was said to be “focused” on something, but what about Jammy Jellyfish? Was it because we were going to eat something delicious?

Be that as it may, Ubuntu 24.10 Oracular Oriole will arrive in October 2024, with the day yet to be announced. It will use a kernel version that will be between Linux 6.10 and 6.11, the second being more likely, and the desktop version will be GNOME 47. More new features will be discovered in the coming months, such as the logo in the application launcher or the version of Thunderbird only as a Noble Numbat snap. As always, we will report any changes as soon as we discover them. Since we are not oracular orioles we cannot advance much further.
