We are less than 10 days before the official launch of Ubuntu 17.04, which will be called Zesty Zapus, and shortly after Mark Shuttleworth will reveal the name of the next version of the operating system that Canonical develops. Taking into account that the version that will be released next week starts with ZZ and looking at the name of the different versions of Ubuntu, everything seems to indicate that the next version will start with AA. Until the CEO of Canonical reveals it, we will not be able to know which animal and what adjective they will use in Ubuntu 17.10, although a leak assures that it will be Acrobatic Aardvark.
Still available at the time of writing these lines, it has appeared a post from a mailing list mentioning what could be the name of the Ubuntu version that will in all likelihood be released in October 2017. At the end of the post we can read the phrase (in English) «Let's try dropping Ubuntu's aptdaemon in Acrobatic Aardvark«. If we take into account that he is referring to a future Ubuntu version and that the initials are AA, we could be before the name of Ubuntu 17.10.
Acrobatic Aardvark or not, Ubuntu 17.10 is coming October 2017
But has the name of the next Ubuntu release really leaked? I think we should remain skeptical. The reason that makes me think that it will not be so is that, if it were really to be the codename of Ubuntu 17.10 and its filtration would have been an error, the web page would not be accessible; it would have been completely or partially removed to maintain secrecy.
Acrobatic Aardvark is most likely just the way they refer to Ubuntu 17.10 right now, that is, the name that is used internally to refer to the project until its official presentation. In any case, by the end of next week we will know the final name of a next version of Ubuntu that in all probability will start with AA.
