After 3 years comes the new version of LazPaint 7.0.5

lazpaint

After almost three years of development the release of the new version was announced from the popular image manipulation program "LazPaint 7.0.5" which in functionality resembles the PaintBrush and Paint.NET graphical editors.

Initially, the project was developed to demonstrate the capabilities of the BGRABitmap graphics library, which provides advanced drawing capabilities in the Lazarus development environment. Basically LazPaint is a layered raster image editor whose main goal is to be simpler than GIMP.

Rendering is done with antialiasing and gamma correctionIn addition, LazPaint can read and write common image formats and interoperate with other layered editors through the OpenRaster format.

Provides many color manipulation functions. Since version 6, there are curve adjustment functions or RGBA channels and with HSL color space. There are complex selection functions, various filters, and texture rendering.

As well imports Paint.NET files (with its layered structure) and Photoshop files (as flat images). Additionally, you can import 3D objects in Wavefront (.obj) format.

Additionally It has features such as in addition to opening and recording image files in various formats, including multi-layered images and 3D files, typical drawing tools with layer support, tools for highlighting parts of images with anti-aliasing and mask changes.

LazPaint provides a collection of filters for blur, contouring, spherical projection, etc. There are tools for coloring, changing colors, lightening / darkening, and adjusting color reproduction.

LazPaint can also be used from the console to convert formats and modify images (rotation, scaling, flipping, displaying lines and gradients, changing transparency, changing colors, etc.).

The application is written in Pascal using the Lazarus platform (Free Pascal) and is distributed under the GPLv3 license. The binaries are prepared for Linux, Windows and macOS.

What's new in LazPaint 7.0.5?

In this new stable release of LazPaint 7.0.5 there are few changes in general since this new version only fixes some errors and adds few things.

Such is the case of the addition to be able to convert "shape to curve" as well as the addition to be able to adjust coordinates centered in pixels.

For the case of the corrections the solution to the TIFF loading error is highlighted in some systems as well as the error with the mouse in MacOS and Windows and the fix for the ALT and CTRL with the mouse in MacOS.

Of the other changes that stand out in this new version:

  • shortcuts for colorpicker are "C", for curve move point "Z", for curve insertion point "I" and also for Insert
  • Max Zoom Workspace Fill
  • navigation directory dialog box on macOS
  • paste the vector shape into the empty layer
  • align vector shapes to pixels with CTRL or CMD
  • return key to finish the polygon shape
  • reset popup counter to "forget dialogs"

How to install LazPaint 7.0.5 on Ubuntu and derivatives?

For those interested in being able to install this new version of the application on their systems, they can do so by following the instructions we share below.

The first thing we are going to do is download the package of the last version from the following link (here you will find all the installers for the various supported operating systems).

In the same way we can do it from the terminal which can be opened with the help of the key combination "Ctrl + Alt + T) and in it they will only have to type the following.

For those who have a 64-bit system, the command they have to type is:

wget https://github.com/bgrabitmap/lazpaint/releases/download/v7.0.5/lazpaint7.0.5_linux64.deb -O LazPaint.deb

Now for the case of those who are users of 32-bit systems the command they are going to type is this:

wget https://github.com/bgrabitmap/lazpaint/releases/download/v7.0.5/lazpaint7.0.5_linux32.deb -O LazPaint.deb

Once the download is done, you can install with your preferred package manager or from the terminal with the following command:

sudo dpkg -i LazPaint.deb

And that's it, you can start using the application on your system.

I'll try it Gimp is horribly complicated and it takes a lot to get up. It checks all the fonts every time it runs. It's disgusting to do something simple like copy paste a screenshot and save it as a novel mess ... not to mention ink ,,, no They are for simple use, why so complicated? One MsPaint and voila is what most of the people need, I do not work as an image editor nor am I interested in modifying the photos too much as it is, it came out without lies, let's say that 90% are not image professionals, they have already forgotten the simple things and efficient everything is complicated today as if everyone were multimedia professionals, not enough! .Thanks.
