In the next article we are going to take a look at AnimationMaker, and how we can install its version 1.8.4 on Ubuntu. This software is designed to help the user to quickly create a presentation video that can then be uploaded to platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo. These presentation videos are very useful when using them in all types of campaigns.
It is an application on which we already talked in this blog long ago. This will allow us create animated presentations without the need for advanced or specific knowledge to use the program and achieve impressive results. It is also possible to create animated gifs and HTML animations. The idea for developing AnimationMaker comes from Adobe Edge.
For those who have not tried other programs to create this type of animated video presentation, I find this tool very interesting due to its simplicity in creating an animated presentation. Those who have tried this type of program will see that its simplicity of use is very interesting.
AnimationMaker General Features
- As published by the developer, This application was born using Adobe Edge as a source of inspiration.
- Animations created with AnimationMaker can be export to a couple of ffmpeg compatible movie formats like mpg, mp4 or avi.
- Animation work created with this program can also be export to an animated gif.
- Another possibility with animations will be export them to SVG, which can be embedded in an HTML page and animated with GSAP.
- For the moment, however there is no official documentation on this program. But the creator makes a short introductory video available to users, so that anyone who wants can get an idea of how this program works. Although in the video it uses version 1.8.2 and in this article we are going to install 1.8.4.
These are some of the features of this program. You can find all of them in the project website.
Install AnimationMaker on Ubuntu 18.04
In previous versions, we could use this program using an .AppImage package, but according to information from their GitHub page, this format is no longer supported due to problems on various platforms. To avoid them now the creator provides us with an installer very easy to use.
To begin with, from the releases page let's download the .Setup file of the latest version. Today it is 1.8.4.
Once downloaded, from the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) in the same folder in which we have saved the downloaded file, we will give execute permissions:
sudo chmod +x AnimationMaker-Linux*
And with this we have the installer ready. Now in the same terminal we can launch it by typing:
./AnimationMaker-Linux-1.8.4.1.Setup
This command will open the installation window. On the first screen you will welcome us. We will go to the next screen by clicking on "Next".
On the new screen we can select the directory where it will be installed. It should be remembered, because from there we are going to start the program. Once the directory has been selected, we will continue by clicking on "Next" again.
The next two screens are informational. In the last one, we will find the button "install”. Clicking on this button will start the installation.
Start the program
After the installation, we only have go to the folder that we select during the previous process. Inside of her we will find two executable files. The first one is called Apprun, and it will help us to start the program. The other is called maintenancetool, which will provide us with, among others, the option of eliminating the program from our system.
For start the program, in the terminal there will be no more to write from the AnimationMaker directory:
./AppRun
The program will open before us and we can start working.
Uninstall AnimationMaker
As I wrote lines above, if we are interested remove this program from our team, we will only have to go to the AnimationMaker folder and in it execute the command:
./maintenancetool
As can be seen in the previous screenshot, a window will open from which we can very easily eliminate the program.
Its creator recommends users that if they find this tool useful or if they have any request or problem, you can contact him from the project page.
