Apps updated this week in GNOME

Playhouse at This Week in GNOME

Like every Friday for 64 weeks now, GNOME He published an article last night in which he told us about the news that has happened in his circle in the last seven days. Of everything they mentioned there were only two things that had nothing to do with a new version of an application: GNOME Builder 43 no longer includes the Vala Language Server, so you have to install the Vala SDK from its flatpak package and add a few lines configuration, all explained in more detail in the article published a few hours ago.

The other thing was that the OpenQA initiative has made some progress, that the existing tests are being passed again and have been migrated to openqa-tests-git, with more details in this link. With this explained, the following is the list with the more interesting news of what has happened in GNOME from September 30 to October 7.

This week in GNOME

  • Secrets 7.0 (a password manager using the KeePass v.4 format) has been released with:
    • Basic check for file conflicts.
    • Support for password history.
    • Trash bin support.
    • Redesigned custom input attributes.

Secrets 7.0

  • pika-backup now supports excluding directories containing CACHEDIR. TAG. This type of directory allows applications to exclude folders from backups, and is used by Rust, for example, to mark its directories. target. On the other hand, a dialog has been included to exclude folders or files using shell-like patterns and regular expressions.

  • Playhouse 1.0 now available. It now uses GTK4, WebKitGTK, GtkSourceView and GJS (header image, and is an HTM, CSS and JavaScript editor with developer tools included).
  • Tagger 2022.10.0 has arrived with improvements such as:
    • Tagger now requires clicking the 'Apply' button to save changes to selected tags after inserting/removing album art, converting filenames to tags, or downloading MusicBrainz metadata. If the selection of a file is changed without clicking "Apply", the tag changes will be preserved; however, if the music folder is changed/reloaded or the app is closed without clicking “Apply”, the changes will be lost. Removing tags remains a permanent action that will take effect as soon as the action is confirmed from the message box.
    • Added "Overwrite tag with MusicBrainz" option to preferences.
    • Added the ability to click on the album art in the tag properties panel to insert the album art.
    • Fixed an issue where Tagger was not handling UTF-8 characters correctly.
    • Fixed an issue where applying a file name change would not update the list of required files.

  • First version of Zap, an application to play sounds.
  • Gradiance has had its UI and other improvements polished, and they'll be arriving alongside version 0.3.1 very soon:
    • The preset manager now opens immediately.
    • "Logout" message after applying theme.
    • Preset Manager UI Improvement:
      • Presets can now be starred.
      • A preset repository switcher has been added so that only presets from a specific repository can be displayed.
    • All collaborators now appear in the "About" window.
    • The text now follows the GNOME typing guidelines.
    • Fixed flatpak theming.
    • Added a repo template for user to share their presets.

  • Flare 0.5.0 (unofficial Signal GTK client) has been released. In addition to some major bug fixes, Flare has gained the ability to search for contacts, display notifications, and has seen many usability and user interface improvements. Also, libadwaita's new message dialogs and info window are now used.

  • A long-awaited feature in the palette dialog, suggesting different color schemes based on the selected color, has been implemented in Eyedropper. On the other hand, it now uses libadwaita 1.2 and AdwAboutWindow.

And this has been all this week in GNOME.
