Arkas OS, a new Ubuntu-based distro for artists

ark os

When Canonical and the Ubuntu team announced the adoption of Unity instead of Gnome, many tried to create an Ubuntu-based distribution with the Gnome desktop. One of those distributions became an official flavor, this is Ubuntu Gnome.

But others not only stuck with Gnome but also kept the desktop version. This is the case of the Descent OS distribution, a distribution that came out in 2012 and that after a long time, the creator has confirmed the death of the distribution and his work on a new called Arka OS.

Descent OS is a distribution that was based on Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome 2.8 as the main desktop. Since then, the software has evolved and many programs have become obsolete. What's more the Community built around Descent OS was very smallIt was almost limited to the project leader and that has made the distribution dead.

Arkas OS will be oriented to the world of multimedia creation

Arkas OS may have the same target but it is aimed at a type of user who used to use UbuntuStudio and who may be successful. Arkas OS will use Ubuntu 16.04 as the base of the distribution.

Plasma will be the main desktop that will offer a friendly environment for artists and producers they can create their texts, their images, their music, etc ... At the moment we only know about this project through the announcements that Brian Manderville, creator of Descent OS, has made through his social media accounts.

Personally, Arkas OS looks like it has a great future but it also does not offer anything other than installing on Kubuntu Krita, Gimp, LibreOffice or OpenShot. The result would be the same and we could have it in a matter of minutes. But Will Arka OS have something different? What do you think of this new distribution based on Ubuntu 16.04?
