This player will allow us to enjoy a modern GTK interface or change your skin using those of Winamp Classic. We will also be able to use the plugins included with Audacious to obtain the lyrics of the music.

Audacious 3.9 Player General Features

The Audacious player is available for Gnu / Linux and Windows. Includes an extensive list of plugins, along with multiple interfaces: GTK2, GTK3, Qt5 and a Winamp2-like interface. In this article we are going to use the main PPA builds of WebUpd8 and these use the GTK2 and Qt5 interfaces.

In the Qt version the main window is more customizable thanks to the addition of a View menu. This includes the options to view / hide the main menu, information bar, information bar display, status bar, as well as the time remaining music. In addition, it will also provide us additional options in application settings.

The new version of Audacious will give us the possibility to configure the columns of the playlist. Is going to give us drag'n'drop stand to add more music to the playlist. The program interface will also show us an improved search bar for the playlist. It will be hidden until Ctrl + F is pressed. Search matches results more intelligently than in previous versions.

Install Audacious Player 3.9 on Ubuntu or Linux Mint from PPA

To install / update the Audacious player (the latest version is 3.9 at the time of writing this article) in Ubuntu 17.10, 17.04, 16.04 or 14.04 / Linux Mint 18.x or 17.x, and the derivatives we are going to use the WebUpd8 PPA. For this we are going to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and use the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 && sudo apt update && sudo apt install audacious

According to comments on the Webupd8 website, the necessary package for Ubuntu 16.10 has reached the end of its useful life so it is not available.

Uninstall Audacious Player 3.9

Removing this player from our Ubuntu system is very simple. We will only have to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write the following commands in it:

sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 && sudo apt remove audacious
