In the next article we are going to take a look at the Audacious player. A colleague already spoke about this program in a previous article, but the new version 3.9 is now available. For those who do not know this is a open source audio player. Audacious is a direct descendant of XMMS.
El Audacious player 3.9 it will allow us to play the music we want without leaving the equipment without resources to carry out other tasks. The operation of this player is simple. Simply drag and drop individual song files and folders to play music. It will also allow us to search for artists and albums in our entire music library. If we need it we can also create and edit our own custom playlists.
Another interesting feature that this player is going to make available to users will be to be able to upload music from the internet. We will be able to equalize the music from the adjust the sound. We will only have to use the graphic equalizer or we can experiment with LADSPA effects.
This player will allow us to enjoy a modern GTK interface or change your skin using those of Winamp Classic. We will also be able to use the plugins included with Audacious to obtain the lyrics of the music.
Audacious 3.9 Player General Features
The Audacious player is available for Gnu / Linux and Windows. Includes an extensive list of plugins, along with multiple interfaces: GTK2, GTK3, Qt5 and a Winamp2-like interface. In this article we are going to use the main PPA builds of WebUpd8 and these use the GTK2 and Qt5 interfaces.
In the Qt version the main window is more customizable thanks to the addition of a View menu. This includes the options to view / hide the main menu, information bar, information bar display, status bar, as well as the time remaining music. In addition, it will also provide us additional options in application settings.
The new version of Audacious will give us the possibility to configure the columns of the playlist. Is going to give us drag'n'drop stand to add more music to the playlist. The program interface will also show us an improved search bar for the playlist. It will be hidden until Ctrl + F is pressed. Search matches results more intelligently than in previous versions.
The Qt version of Audacious provides us new controls for recording sequences. It also shows us built-in menu items as well as keyboard shortcuts for the playlist manager and search tool.
The player in its new version can display a comment column in playlist. This version has also improved the formatting of the search tool results (bold, italic and capital letters highlight different types of results).
Audacious 3.9 has also added support for m3u playlists. In addition, this new version has added new improvements and bug fixes.
Install Audacious Player 3.9 on Ubuntu or Linux Mint from PPA
To install / update the Audacious player (the latest version is 3.9 at the time of writing this article) in Ubuntu 17.10, 17.04, 16.04 or 14.04 / Linux Mint 18.x or 17.x, and the derivatives we are going to use the WebUpd8 PPA. For this we are going to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 && sudo apt update && sudo apt install audacious
According to comments on the Webupd8 website, the necessary package for Ubuntu 16.10 has reached the end of its useful life so it is not available.
To get the necessary packages for other Gnu / Linux and Windows distributions, users can go to the download page by Audacious.
Uninstall Audacious Player 3.9
Removing this player from our Ubuntu system is very simple. We will only have to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write the following commands in it:
sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 && sudo apt remove audacious
