Audacity 2.2, the new update of the most famous sound program

Audacity 2.2 on Ubuntu

One of the most iconic Free Software programs, Audacity, has recently been updated. Audacity 2.2 is the new version of this sound editing program. A version that comes with many changes, although essentially the program does not change nor do we lose its functionalities.

Despite everything, the changes focus on user experience and that causes many to have functional problems, but only until they learn the new location of the usual functions.

One of the first changes we found in Audacity 2.2 is the incorporation of four skins or skins that will radically customize the program. These skins can be changed or simply put aside and opt for the traditional appearance of the program.

New buttons appear below the menu bar, buttons that are shortcuts to functions that Audacity already performed, such as exporting the sound to WAV, MP3, or playing MIDI files. Functions that before we had to do through operations with the different Audacity menus. The menus have also changed considerably. Now, the most common operations have been uploaded and put in first place, while the rest of functions are left in the last places. Positions that favor the performance of certain common tasks among Audacity users. We can find all the details of the changes in itdevelopment note from the Audacity team.

Facing this new version Audacity developers have fixed more than 190 bugs that existed within the program, which makes Audacity 2.2 one of the most stable versions of the program that exist. But unfortunately, to be able to install this version in Ubuntu we have to wait or choose to choose an external repository that contains this version. In this case we have to open the terminal and write:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/audacity

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install audacity

Or change the last line of code to:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

And with this we will have the latest version of Audacity in our Ubuntu.
