Audacity 2.3.1 released, this time also for Linux

Audacity 2.3.1

Audacity 2.3.1

As an amateur music user, I am used to editing sound. I usually do this with sequencers, like GarageBand on macOS or Ardor on Linux, but such a complex option isn't always necessary. If what we want is only to edit the wave, the best tool is the protagonist of this article, one that is also open source. And is that Audacity 2.3.1 is now available for download and installation. And this time, also for Linux.

The point is that Linux users were a long time with Audacity 2.2.1 due to a serious bug which caused the application to close. This is something that did not happen in Windows and macOS, so users who used Microsoft's desktop operating system or Apple's have had a new version for a year. This problem has already been fixed in the latest versions and Audacity 2.3.0 is now available from the Snapstore and v2.3.1 from its repository.

Audacity 2.3.1 is available from its repository

The previous version, which we remember is already available as a snap package, was the one that included the most news, this one focusing on correcting errors. Of course, I have verified that, if I am not wrong about something, v2.3.0 has a much older design than v2.3.1, so it looks like they've updated the interface taking advantage of the new release.

To install the latest version we will have to open a Terminal window and write the following, as explained in this article:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/audacity
sudo apt update
sudo apt install audacity

If we don't want to add a repository, as is my case, we can install v2.3.0 from its snap package with the following command:

sudo snap install audacity

If nothing happens, we should soon have the new version in the Snapstore and in a little more time in the official Ubuntu repositories. The Windows and macOS users can download the new version from their website.
