The Portable Apps for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS suite is now available

Portal Apps for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Since yesterday, Monday, May 16, Orbital-Apps has made available to users Portable Apps for Ubuntu 16.04. As we have never talked about this, the first thing we have to say is how this application package works: first of all, the included applications are available from the Orbital-Apps website (you have a link at the end of the article). The next thing is that the downloaded file is a compressed file in .orb format, which is intended to take up little space in case we have to use it on a USB pendrive.

As with any Live USB of most GNU / Linux distributions, the applications will automatically enter Portable or Persistent mode when executed from the USB flash drive. If we choose the Persistent mode, all changes will be stored in the application concrete of our pendrive. To understand it better, we can put Firefox, for example, that if we use it in persistent mode, when using it on another PC we can access our history or enter websites whose password has been previously stored on another computer (from the portable application).

It is important to note that the applications included in Portable Apps for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS they are designed to work on the latest version of Ubuntu. With this in mind, we can think that they are compatible with all official Ubuntu flavors (such as Ubuntu MATE, Kubuntu or Lubuntu, among others), but their operation is not guaranteed. They are also likely to work flawlessly on other Debian-based GNU / Linux distributions or on Linux Mint "Pink", but this cannot be guaranteed 100% either. If you try this application package in a distribution other than Ubuntu, do not hesitate to leave your experiences in the comments.

But all apps are 64-bit, what if you have a 32-bit laptop?
Also, you have to install the ORb Launcher first, right?
