The main characteristic of this new version of Linux Mint 19.1 is that it is based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver And it will offer security updates until 2023, just like the preview version released half a year ago.

New version of Cinnamon

With this release also comes what It is the most renewed version of the desktop environment of the distribution which is Cinnamon 4.0.

This new version of Cinnamon 4.0 receives a completely new panel design, which also requires a new workflow.

One click should be enough to switch between the old and new look, depending on personal preference.

The new panel is not only more modern, it is also more configurable than before.

Nemo file manager code has been thoroughly revised. That speeds it up to three times the speed, the developers say:

On the other hand, Different tweaks have been made in Linux Mint 19.1 allowing users to install kernel updates along with other patches.

Previously, after the user installed the new kernel, the old kernel will continue to exist unless the user enters the Update Manager and manually removes them one by one.

This causes the user to receive a notification that the boot sector is full after installing the new kernel.

Now, there is a button in the Kernel manager that "remove old kernels", which is convenient for the user to select the old kernel to be removed and remove it in batches.
