BleachBit is a tool that will help us break free a bit of space on our hard drive erasing obsolete, unnecessary system files or that we just don't want more.
To install it in the family distributions Ubuntu (Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Lubuntu, etc.) it is not necessary to add any additional repository since the program is in the software sources official, so just open a console and type the command:
sudo apt-get install bleachbit
We enter our password and accept the changes.
Once installed we can launch the program with the command bleachbit. If we are on Kubuntu, for example, we can open KRunner and write bleachbit to launch the application.
With BleachBit you will be able to erase the temporary files, records, the cache and the list of recent documents from the system, the cookies and the Flash cache, the thumbnails generated by programs such as the file manager, files .desktop broken files, the contents of the trash, the clipboard history, unused translations, X11 debug logs, the bash history and many other things depending on what applications we have installed - such as the list of recently used documents in VLC, the cache from Xine or the Transmission cache.
Furthermore BleachBit is capable of compact browser databases as Firefox, Opera and Chromium, eliminating fragmentation and thus improving, in some cases, the response speed when searching for a page in our bookmarks or a site saved in the browsing history.
It is important to check which boxes are checked before putting the program to work. Anyway BleachBit offers us the possibility of visualizing a preview of each of the changes to be made in the system before deleting anything.
