Budgie 10.3 Now Available; We tell you how to install it in Ubuntu

Ubuntu Budgie

A few hours ago a new version of the Budgie desktop was officially released. This version it's called Budgie 10.3, the latest version of the 10.x branch that brings big changes. Many warn that it is the version of the branch that has received the most changes.

Budgie 10.3 is not in Ubuntu Budgie 17.04, however it can be installed without any problem, as in the rest of the Ubuntu versions; although in both cases we have to resort to external repositories to perform the update.

Budgie 10.3 provides various bug fixes and solutions to problems that users of this desktop have reported lately. In addition, changes have been added to the time applets; of raven music player and also in the desktop changer application, an application that is now faster and more stable.

Also it has been reported that this version does not use the QT libraries, libraries that recently announced that they will use, but Budgie 10.3 uses GTK3 libraries. The developers have confirmed that it will be the last version of Budgie that will use these libraries but is still using them.

If we have Ubuntu Budgie 17.04, to get the latest version of Budgie we have to enable Budgie backports so that the latest version is updated. For this we have to write the following in the terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntubudgie/backports

sudo apt update && sudo apt install budgie-desktop budgie-indicator-applet

If, on the other hand, we have another Ubuntu flavor or an earlier version, we have to use the old Budgie Remix repository, for this we open the terminal and write the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:budgie-remix/ppa

sudo apt update && sudo apt install budgie-desktop budgie-artwork

Keep in mind that this Budgie repository has the latest version of Nautilus, a version that does not have the old versions of Ubuntu, so we could have problems if we leave these repositories enabled, in any case it is not something fixed and if we are Budgie users it may be worth it Do not you think?
