Budgie Remix 16.10 Now Available; comes with kernel 4.8

Budgie Remix / Ubuntu Budgie

It seems that with the excitement and with the disappointment that I will comment on later, yesterday I forgot to write about the official launch of Budgie Remix 16.10, a system that aspired to become the official flavor of the Yakkety Yak brand but, as in Xenial Xerus, it seems that it has remained at the doors and will have to wait another 6 months to enter the Ubuntu family, something that is expected to make with the Ubuntu Budgie name.

As promised last Thursday, Budgie Remix 16.10 officially arrived yesterday Sunday, a new version of this beautiful operating system that, like the rest of the versions based on Yakkety Yak, arrives with the main novelty of the Linux Kernel 4.8. You may know a bit but, as promised, Linux kernel version 4.8 is more compatible with more hardware, which, for example, means that I personally no longer have to clone my Wi-Fi card drivers on my PC every time the kernel receives the slightest update. Or well, it has been so far.

Budgie Remix: nice, but with its shortcomings

As I discussed at the beginning of this post, the relative excitement of using a version of Ubuntu like Budgie Remix as the host was followed by a disappointment that caused me to reinstall Xubuntu. First because I see more bug notifications than I would like to see. But what's worse is that something that seems as simple as setting the navigation scroll (natural or inverted) is not available from the system settings. It can be changed, but if we do it we will only change the behavior of some applications, that is, if we modify it with any of the available tools, in some applications we will have to slide up to go down and in others we will slide up and go to above. So it is impossible to get used to it and the natural gesture comes out.

On the other hand, I have been using close, minimize and maximize buttons on the left. The same thing happens with this as with the navigation scroll: we can change some buttons and put them to the left, but they will only move in some application. In fact, on Friday I was thinking of doing a tutorial to move them to the left, but in the end I did not do it so as not to mess with anyone.

In any case, Budgie Remix is an operating system with a very attractive image And, if you don't need the natural navigation scrolling and the buttons to the left, I think it's a very good option. If you are interested, you can download Budgie Remix 16.10 by clicking on the following image.
