A few days have passed since the last On-The-Air update of Ubuntu Touch, the OTA-12, and Canonical already has plans for the next version. The new edition of Ubuntu's mobile operating system has been a success in terms of downloads, and we hope the next one will be too thanks to the list of new arrivals that are already being defined by the company's engineers.
As discussed in forums and internal conversations, the new enhancements appear to be aimed at continue to evolve the functions introduced in OTA-12, especially those referring to X Apps and Ubuntu Phone support newer, like the Meizu MX6 Ubuntu Edition.
Last week you we commented the news included in the latest update released by Canonica for Ubunt Touch, the OTA-12. In Canonical, the first ideas for OTA-13, aimed especially at continue to improve those already introduced in the previous one and also correct those faults that are located.
The first major improvement that was made to OTA-12 was related Libertine scope, an application that will soon be renamed as Desktop Apps, and that allows the execution of applications that are launched in X environments within the Ubuntu Touch operating system. This program also allows you to list all those applications of this type that are installed within the system.
Another improvement that is intended to be introduced in the next Ubuntu Touch OTA-13 is the support of the new Ubuntu Phone that will be launched on the market, the Meizu MX6 Ubuntu Edition. Although this terminal has not been officially recognized by Meizu itself, it is expected to support this operating system thanks to the new base that Ubuntu Touch will contain, based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow BSP (Board Support Package).
Release dates are not yet clear, but looking at development cycles It is expected that by the end of August or the beginning of September we can have something tangible in hand. In the meantime, make sure you are up to date with Ubuntu Touch's OTA-12.
