It's already D-day and H-hour, or more or less. D-Day is, April 18. Hour H is what we can discuss, since Ubuntu 19.04 is now downloadable, but we still have to wait a little longer to see it on the official pages of the different flavors of Ubuntu. This is totally normal and happens every six months: first upload the ISO images to cdimage.ubuntu.com and then they update the web pages making the launch official.
The new version will initially disappoint some users. And it is that there are no outstanding news "to name" beyond that it comes with Linux Kernel 5.0. What is striking is a new image that has updated Ubuntu's default theme, this in the case of the main version of the operating system developed by Canonical. The The most mentioned absence is that Android integration will have to waitat least six more months.
What's New in Ubuntu 19.04
Keep in mind that small details will still be discovered, but among what comes with this new version we have:
- The support will be 9 months, like all non-LTS versions.
- As expected and we already knew, it includes a new desktop background, the dog with headphones that you have already seen in different articles of Ubunlog.
- The system has gained a lot in speed, something that will make the disappointed at first stop being so.
- Ability to bookmark files in Nautilus.
- Latest versions of applications such as Firefox, Thunderbird or LibreOffice.
- The Yaru theme supports many more applications, including third-party apps. It caught my attention as soon as I started the USB to install the system.
- gnomes 3.32.
- Control of application permissions. Ubuntu 19.04 will allow us to better control what an application can and cannot do from a new Applications setting.
- Improvements in the Terminal app: the new Terminal version includes tabs, something similar to what we see in the default text editor. We can open new tabs from the button that has been enabled. There will also be another button to search.
- Livepatch: with this we can update the kernel without restarting.
- Night Light temperature control.
- Improved audio control.
