Cave Story, a platform game for fans of the classic

Cave Story

Some time ago I remember playing a Play Station 1 game and being very surprised by the 3D simulation graphics and effects. In fact, I remember getting a bit dizzy going down a hole that seemed realistic to me. And it is that I have known 8-bit games and even earlier. In the end you get used to the new and you like it too, but you keep playing what you did many years ago. That's why a tweet in which they talked about Cave Story, a title highly valued by the gaming community.

Cave Story will be 15 years old this Christmas, on December 20. In 2004 the PS2 already existed and there were games with very good graphics like the Fifa of that time or some Metal Gear, where I remember a friend mentioning the headband that moved with the character. But this game is independent, one person did it And the result is spectacular. Taking into account that he did not have the means of a large studio, he cannot be blamed for the fact that this game has a retro image, and even less if we take into account that its story is very good.

Cave Story, the acclaimed game is available as a snap

Cave Story is freeware, so by installing it we will not be breaking any anti-piracy rules or laws. It is an adventure and exploration game with a non-linear story. It was so successful that it was ported to the most important consoles from Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo. It is also for PC and all its versions are free, even those that are obtained in the stores of the big companies. In any distribution compatible with snap packages just write the following command to install it:

sudo snap install cavestory

The controls are as follows:

  • Move: cursor arrows.
  • Skip: WITH.
  • disparar: X
  • Previous weapon: TO.
  • Next weapon: yes
  • Inventory:Q
  • Map: w
  • Pause: ESC.
  • To interact: Down arrow.

The last control I have added after testing it, since it does not appear in the options. With the arrow downstairs we will enter through doors, talk to characters or pick up objects. The downside, of course, is that playing on a keyboard is not as accurate as playing on a keyboard. gamepad specially designed for it. Personally I don't really like playing with the keyboard because I don't get used to it and I have to think about which buttons I have to press but, even so, there is something that tells me that I am going to finish playing this game one way or another.

A wonderful game. You should know that it has more than one ending and to get the good ending believe me that at least I wouldn't be able to do it without a command. It's very complicated!
