Complement the LibreOffice installation with these extensions

libreoffice

After having done the installation of LibreOffice 6 in our Ubuntu, there are still some configurations to be made to have a complete installation of our preferred office suite.

Uno one of the first steps is to change the language of the application since the default language is English, there are people who do not have the slightest problem with this. But There are also other add-ons for LibreOffice.

In this article let's talk about some of the extensions that we consider essential for the suite, I must comment that it is only a personal compilation so it is only based on integrating the most usual into LibreOffice.

Change LibreOffice language to Spanish

As I said, some of you have no problem with it, but for those who want to use the application in the Spanish language either for convenience or because they just started using the application, we have two ways to put our suite into Spanish.

The first of them is by downloading the package offered by the LibreOffice team from the official website, the link is this.

The second method is to install the translation from the Ubuntu repositoriesI understand that this package is intended for LibreOffice version 5, but it works perfect on 6.

We just have to open a terminal and run:

sudo apt install libreoffice-l10n-es

Install java for LibreOffice plugins

Before starting with the plugins, it is necessary to have java installed on the system, since many of the add-ons that you will find for the suite need a java execution environment to be installed and work.

We open the terminal and execute:

sudo apt install default-jre

Now if you like, you can install the development kit which includes the execution environment inside the package, for this you just type:

sudo apt install default-jdk

Install dictionary in LibreOffice

Uno of the most essential add-ons for the suite It is the integration of a dictionary, since the one that the suite has by default is generic, there is nothing like having a complete one from our region.

For this we must go to the official website of LibreOffice extensions, being inside we go to the dictionary section andHere we will use the search engine to find the dictionary of our region, link is this.

In my case, the one from Mexico, it seems that the person who was giving support has stopped doing it and the extension is no longer available, we can use the next.

To install it, just drag the extension onto a LibreOffice application and it will be installed. The other method is to secondary click on the downloaded extension and we are going to select the option "Open with another application" and look for one of the suite.

Add a spelling and grammar checker

Language Tool

Another of the accessories that we must have is a spelling and grammar checker, this will work in conjunction with the dictionary and it is extremely useful for many of us and I include myself on the list.

For this there is LanguageTool a wonderful tool that is not only designed for LibreOffice, it also has its own website where we can paste the text and it will point out the spelling errors, as well as the grammar suggestions.

The extension we found it on the extensions webThe best thing about it is that it was updated a few weeks ago so it works like a charm.

Add support for saving in various formats

We must bear in mind that whatLibreOffice developers have worked hard and added support for various file formats and that these can be read and worked on the applications of the suite.

However we also have extensions that improve this even more, for this we have MultiSave extension allows us to save at once in various formats: .odf, .docx, .pdf in a few clicks.

If you think that we should include some other complement that you think is essential, do not hesitate to share it with us in the comments.
