Cool Retro Term, a terminal emulator for the most nostalgic

cool retro term

Who here used a computer during the 80s? We are not talking about the Spectrum, the MSX, the Amiga or the Commodore - which are also very interesting, but which are now irrelevant. We refer to the first models of Apple or the first PCs with MS-DOS. If you are one of those users and you miss those times, then Cool Retro Term is for you.

Cool Retro Term is a terminal emulator that mimics the look of old cathode ray monitors, and what can be an alternative eye candy to flat but efficient emulators, such as Tilda or Terminator. There is no denying that, at the very least, it is attractive to look at, and it is quite fun to use.

One of the characteristics of Cool Retro Term that makes it so interesting is that of be able to customize it as we wantAnother is that it is relatively lightweight and should work well on limited rigs. Also, it is built using the Konsole engine, the KDE emulator, which is already a veteran and quite powerful. Being a kind of fork Konsole requires Qt 5.2 or higher to work.

For those who don't want to waste time configuring everything themselves, Cool Retro Term includes predefined customization settings that can be activated with just one click. This is done using different profiles, which are Amber, Green, Scanlines, Pixelated, Apple] [, Vintage, IBM Dos, IBM 3287, and Transparent Green. Of course, you can define your own.

Your preferences too offer many setting fields: you can change the brightness, contrast, opacity, fonts, font scale and width, define visual effects for the terminal, control the FPS, the quality of the textures and the scan lines and much more. It has enough options so that you can leave the program perfectly to your liking.

If you would like to install Cool Retro Term enter the commands that we leave you below in a terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/apps
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cool-retro-term

If you dare to try it, do not hesitate to leave us a comment with your experience.

It's cool to work for a "little while" but not when you have to do a lot of things. I recommend that everyone who is a few years old like me install it.
