If you are enthusiastic about Ubuntu but you don't like some aspects about him packaging distribution, you will surely put to good use UbuntuBuilder.
Ubuntu Builder is a program that will allow us create our own Ubuntu flavor customizing some of the official installation images of the Canonical distribution. Something similar, although perhaps not as powerful, to what SUSE Studio offers.
The application will allow us choose the desktop environment of our preference –KDE, GNOME, LXDE, XFCE, etc.–, the window manager, establish what packages will be installed y the repositories that will be available From the first moment. Ubuntu Builder also allows us to customize 32-bit and 64-bit images, thus being able to choose the best option depending on the architecture of our computer.
Also, if we wish, we can give a name to the distribution we create and even edit Ubiquity.
Installation
Installing Ubuntu Builder couldn't be easier. Enough with download the package .deb from the official site of the tool, or we can do it by adding the PPA f-muriana / ubuntu-builder with the command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:f-muriana/ubuntu-builder
And after this refresh and install with:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ubuntu-builder
If your thing is to compile, in the project page you can also find the binary.
