DaxOS, a young distribution

DaxOs, a young distribution

I haven't talked to you about distributions based on Ubuntu. Distributions based on Ubuntu and they vary completely until creating their own development as is the case of Linux Mint o Elementary OS. DaxOS it is an example of a walker in the same direction.

DaxOS is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, it takes its packages and repositories from it. Initially, DaxOS had as its desktop Elightenment 17 highly customized and configured to be easy to use for the newest users. Now, in its version 2.0, DaxOS uses a new desktop, created by themselves and developed in Gambas 3 that allows them to give that touch of difference compared to Ubuntu.

What does DaxOS bring?

The desktop is called Andrómeda Desktop Environment and among other virtues it has a basic application launcher, easy to configure and which by default is located and organizes the applications so that the novice user does not have any problems. It also has full compatibility with the usual applications such as dropbox.

Other custom apps from DaxOS They are the text editor and the music player. The first is called Medusa and it is focused on being light and simple. Like the rest, it is written in Prawns 3. The music player is still under development and although it is very light and fully integrated into the desktop, it only reads mp4 and flv files. Which is good but shows a lack of maturity.

The creators of this distribution have created three flavors of her just like her mother Ubuntu, the flavors are Kids, Life and the normal version. Flavor Kids It provides software distribution and a graceful environment with children, the smallest ones, which will allow them to get into computing without any problem. The other "reciente"Flavor is Life a complete distro in terms of multimedia that introduces numerous apps to the desktop such as social networks, mail, etc ... that give great versatility to the distribution.

The creators of this distribution have also announced their resolutions for this year, among which is a new flavor focused on Raspberry Pi, an improvement of all its products and the development of a space with the platform owncloud where they will house the files, tests, samples and documents of the development of this distribution.

As you can see, it is a distribution with a very defined market, perfect for novice and non-novice users that significantly improves its mother distribution in terms of performance and lightness.

I would also like to comment that its origins are Spanish, it was tested in a famous Gnu / Linux forum in Spain and it seems to be giving good results. What is your opinion? Have you tried this distribution? What do you think of this type of development?

Just like the other day I criticized your article on lubuntu, today I can only congratulate you for publishing very interesting news and distributions about which little information is available. Congratulations on the blog.

Thank you very much, although I prefer criticism, it improves with it. By the way, we are open to suggestions from distros, if you want us to look at or talk about one that is based on Ubuntu, do not hesitate to ask us. Thank you once again for your reading.
