I'm just asking, will this desktop affect my apps? Since I have very customized my Ubuntu, I have very specific apps installed for my work.

Hello! Not in theory. First if you already have it installed, when you update you will continue with Unity if it is the one you have installed. If you are with Gnome I honestly do not know how the extensions will behave.

I think that with the union of Ubuntu, version 18.04 will be excellent, the one that I will miss the most from unity is the global menu, it is a total use of the screen, I hope they add that even as a plugin, I know that it already exists but, there are still 2 spaces of screen (toolbar, and application border) in some applications there are up to 3 lines adding the application options menu.
