Discover will be able to install applications in snap format

Discover from Kubuntu

For months Ubuntu has been working and promoting the development of its packages in snap format. These packages are very good as they are compatible with almost any distribution and version, but they have a downside. Actually, most users use distribution software stores or centers to install applications.

This means that many users and developers do not use the snap format. A few days ago we learned about the launch of Software Boutique, an application center that used the snap format, but it is for systems that use GTK libraries, and the users of QT libraries?

This week we have learned that finally users of Qt libraries and especially KDE users will be able to do using snap packages through the Discover software center and without having to change distribution, using Ubuntu.

Discover will support and install snap apps before the end of the year

Discover has become a great application within Plasma. A tool that allows users to install applications with minimal effort. Currently se is working so that Discover also allows the installation of apps in snap format, not only to facilitate the use for users but also to help developers to have a popular channel to distribute applications in snap format.

According to the development schedule of this function, the arrival of the snap packages to Discover will be with Plasma version 5.11In other words, before the end of the year Plasma and KDE users will be able to handle applications in snap format.

Personally, it seems like a good idea that there is a single application to control all formats and software that we introduce into our operating system. And everything indicates that the main applications with these functions will be Discover and Boutique Software Do not you think?
