DockBarX, the Windows 7 bar on your Linux

DocBarX

In the next article, I'm going to show you how to install the famous taskbar or Dock of the operating system Microsoft Windows 7.

With DockBarX, we will give the whole appearance of the taskbar of Windows 7 to our favorite Debian-based Linux distribution.

The task bar that it offers us DockBarX is fully functional and a perfect clone of Windows 7, even copying the thumbnail previews of the screens that we have open in the session.

To install it correctly in our Linux distro based on Debian we must do the following:

Add the application repositories

To add the application's own repositories, we will open a new terminal and execute the following command line:

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa: nilarimogard / webupd8
We will update the repositories and packages with the following command:
  • sudo apt-get update

And we will go on to install the fabulous Windows 7 Clone Dock with the following command line:

  • sudo apt-get install dockbarx dockbarx-themes-extra
With this we will have correctly installed the toolbar of Windows 7 on our Debian-based Linux operating system.
DocBarX

DockBarX Features:

  • You can keep your favorite applications pinned to the panel in the same way as in Windows 7.
  • The program distinguishes between minimized and maximized windows.
  • Ability to define whether an application docked in the Dock has been started or not.
  • Themes support capacity
  • Configuration options and mouse gestures.
  • Configuration options for keyboard shortcuts.
  • Preview of the application minimized in experimental mode still, but with a quality that has nothing to envy to Windows 7.
  • In general a Dock with the appearance of Windows 7, but without any of its downsides.

A good way to start with Linux, and go in a controlled and progressive way from the operating system of Microsoft to the best operating system in the world, which is none other than Linux.

In my opinion, you don't need that 'Window $ era' bar in Linux.

It didn't work for me to use it in xubuntu, it's weird because if I'm not wrong before it came by default with the xfce desktop, 🙁

Iustus: It didn't work for me at all on Linux Mint Debian. I think the author of the article has made something wrong. Anyway, even though it is not necessary, having the famous panels, it is curious and always useful to know something more. Thanks for the good intention

For those who do not work, they can install one that is already old in Linux and in my own opinion, respecting the opinion of all, even the poster, it is the best, it is about Cairo-dock, it is native to Linux, it is available for almost but for all distros and it is easy to configure.
