Edubuntu 24.04 has a new target: the Raspberry Pi 5

Edubuntu 24.04 on Raspberry Pi

There are currently several editions of Ubuntu available for some Raspberry Pi boards. Without looking at any cheat sheets I know that Ubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie and Ubuntu MATE can be used on these SBCs, and could soon be added to that list dubuntu 24.04. We have just entered 2024, so you still have 4 months to achieve this achievement. The intentions are already there, and they are partly motivated by a gift made by the community.

A while ago, an acquaintance on the Internet was asking about a good way to get her son to attend remote classes with a very economical computer. I told him about the Raspberry Pi, at that time the 4 or 400, which could have an operating system that could be strange at first, but with everything or almost everything necessary for education. She showed interest and took the step, and according to Edubuntu leaders there are many more people like her.

Edubuntu 24.04 will arrive in April and will be LTS

The gift has come from an anonymous donor, who has donated a Raspberry Pi 5 to the project that develops the Ubuntu edition for education. If everything goes as expected, Edubuntu 24.04 will reach the Raspberry Pi, at least to the 2023 version, which is where you can test its advances. At Raspberry Pi 4 and earlier could arrive, but it will be necessary to carry out tests on them as well. Otherwise, there will be two possibilities: image for those versions without official support or support only for Raspberry Pi 5. Taking into account that Edubuntu is based on Ubuntu (GNOME), I would bet that we will see them on less new boards.

dubuntu 24.04 will arrive in april with the rest of the Noble Numbat family. It will share much of it with the main edition, including GNOME 46 and probably Linux 6.8.
