Elementary OS 0.4 Loki receives new beta with bug fixes. The next will be RC1

Elementary OS 0.4 Loki

Daniel Foré, from the Elementary OS development team, was in charge of informing yesterday Sunday of the availability of the Elementary OS 0.4 Loki second beta. The new version has been released to correct bugs, more than 70 in total of which most have been reported by users who tested beta 1 of this operating system. Many of the fixes are configuration changes, so first beta testing will need to do a clean install.

Although it's only been a month since beta 1, we've already fixed over 70 issues that testers have reported to us. Beta 1 testers: make sure to run the updates to receive the fixes that are coming and everything that is listed on this page. Some of the fixes listed are configuration changes and will not be available to beta 1 testers as updates. To receive the full list of fixes, we highly recommend doing a clean install of beta 2.

Elementary OS 0.4 Loki will be based on Ubuntu 16.04

La next version they will release will be the first Release Candidate or RC1, but it is not yet known when this version will arrive. The next version could be RC2.

The Elementary OS developer team just releases LTS versions, so Loki will be based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus. The new version will have patch and update support until 2021 and will include many key Ubuntu 16.04 features, such as Linux Kernel 4.4.

Personally, I am saddened to see the Elementary OS developer team taking so long to release their systems. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to say I don't value his work, but it was released last week. Ubuntu 16.04.1Ubuntu 16.04 has been released for three months and we will still have to wait a long time to be able to use the final version of Elementery OS Loki. In fact, whenever I have used Elementary OS I have felt good and I have liked its image a lot (I think it is my favorite), but I usually miss some functions that are already available in the latest versions of Ubuntu and I end up installing any another distro.

In any case, we already have a new beta and will probably give Elementary OS a chance again if Unity 8 I'm not convinced when Ubuntu 16.10 is released.
