Few days ago the release of the new version of Elementary OS 5.1.4 was presented, which is a distribution that is positioned as a fast, open and privacy-conscious alternative for Windows and macOS.
The main goal of the project is high-quality design, aimed at creating an easy-to-use system that consumes minimal resources and ensures high startup speed. Users are offered their own Pantheon desktop environment.
The original Elementary OS components are developed using GTK3, Vala and her own Granite frame. The development of the Ubuntu project is used as the basis of the distribution. At the package level and repository support, Elementary OS 5.1.x is compatible with Ubuntu 18.04.

Keyboard navigation is simplified: the input focus is now set to the search bar and you can immediately use the cursor keys to move through the search results.
Parental Controls have been renamed to "Screen Time and Limits" and they have been expanded with the ability to define rules related to limiting screen activity time, Internet access, and application use. Now similar rules can be set for your own accountFor example, for self-organization, so as not to sit too long in front of the computer.
Of the other changes:
- The application menu is optimized to increase the convenience of operating from touch screens, as well as to reduce delays and ensure smooth navigation when using trackpads.
- Close to the classic menu is the app category view mode, which is now presented in the form of a scrollable list instead of a grid.
- Improved keyboard controls and increased productivity.
- In the video player, the last played video and the last position are stored.
- Gala's window manager fixed a crash when changing the virtual desktop and the presence of certain types of open windows.
- The "Open in" menu has been added to the program for viewing photos, simplifying its use for previewing before starting another viewer.
- The Granite library has been updated, which implements a new method for sharing application settings.
