Lately the multimedia world within Gnu / Linux has been stirring a lot with new functions, new programs and new applications. Not long ago we echoed a reform of the official flavor for the multimedia world and today we are talking about Elisa, a new music player.
Elisa was presented in a way last week and is a multimedia player that belongs to the KDE Project and to Plasma. In short, a player compatible with Kubuntu, Plasma and the Qt libraries. However its success or popularity centers on doing the basics very well.Elisa does not have many extra functions such as connection with Spotify or video playback rather, it offers music playback, music list creation, full compatibility with the Plasma desktop and the Baloo tool, and metadata viewing.
Elisa's future plans are to be present in other desktops that use GTK + libraries such as Gnome and to have a presence in other operating systems other than Gnu / Linux such as Windows. They also talk about extra functions but that will depend on the kernel and in any case will be added later.
Regrettably, Kubuntu and Ubuntu users will have to wait to have it in the official repositories, while KDE Neon users already have it in their official repositories. And if we want to install it through the sources, something that we can always do if it is Free Code, we can go to the project website and follow their directions.
Elisa has aroused the curiosity of many users, but it is true that it is not the only music player born for Ubuntu and also with some success. In any step it seems that the reign of Amarok and VLC is ending and they are renewed or will gradually fall into disuse What do you think? Do you think Elisa is a good alternative to VLC? What music player do you use?
