Elisa, the default music player in Kubuntu 20.04 ... or that's the intention

Elizabeth 19.12

Just before christmas, a server wrote an opinion piece on Elisa. It is a KDE Community music player, one perfectly fulfills its function as a multimedia library and in which the same project is working. Kubuntu currently has Cantata installed by default, but this could change next April, coinciding with the release of Kubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa. At least, as we can read in the 2019 summary article, that is the intention.

Considering that Elisa is part of the KDE Applications and that she has already changed her numbering from type 0.x to the usual ones that indicate the year and month (like 19.12), it was easy to think that in the near future would become the default Kubuntu playerbut it was hard to imagine it being so soon. That is something that they are evaluating and that I personally discovered when writing the news article published few minutes ago.

Elisa on Kubuntu 20.04? That's the goal

In the section where they talk about the player, there is a paragraph that leaves no room for doubt:

The Elisa music player got a massive amount of UI polish, new features, and bug fixes - too many to list, really. It is a powerful and easy-to-use music player that is fully supported and actively developed, and I encourage everyone to use it! Kubuntu is evaluating default shipping in its next version 20.04, and I hope others will follow suit.

Quite simply, KDE Community thinks the player is advanced enough to be included in Kubuntu by default, replacing the current Cantata developed by Craig Drummond. They mention that the intention is to include it in the next version of Kubuntu, but that it is available in other systems with a Plasma graphical environment will depend on its developers. This is not clear if it will also come to KDE neon, also developed by the KDE Community, but it probably will.

Would you like Elisa to be the default player for Kubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa?
