Developer Arne Exton recently announced the release and immediate availability for download of their new Linux distribution ExTiX 17.4.
It seems like ExTiX 17.4 is the second distribution based on the new Ubuntu 17.04 operating system (Zesty Zapus), after Ultimate Edition 5.4. However, ExTiX 17.4 is also based on the Debian 8.7 "Jessie" and Debian 9 "Stretch" repositories.
What's new in ExTiX 17.4
The biggest novelty of the ExTiX 17.4 platform seems to be the LXQt 0.11.1 desktop environment, which replaces the Unity 7 user interface, used by default in Ubuntu 17.04. Distribution is also driven by the Linux Kernel 4.10.0-19-exton and all installed packages were updated to their latest versions.
Among the applications delivered with the new ExTiX 17.4 distribution, we can highlight the inclusion of Google Chrome as the default web browser.
Likewise, you will also find the following applications:
- Blue Griffon 2.3.1, a WYSIWYG content editor
- Office suite LibreOffice
- Mozilla Thunderbird, client for email management
- GParted, a program for editing partitions
- Brazier, a program for creating CDs / DVDs
- Media player SMPlayer
Likewise, ExTiX 17.4 also brings factory support for a multitude of multimedia codecs, along with the GCC software and other compilation tools that will allow you to install any other program from source. In addition, the distribution integrates the Nvidia 381.09 graphics driver for those users with Nvidia graphics.
The distribution ExTiX 17.4 with LXQt desktop now available download from SourceForge. The ISO image is supported only for computers with 64-bit architectures and can be added to bootable USB drives or DVD discs. Likewise, it also has the "Copy to RAM" boot option, which will allow you to run the system directly from your computer's memory.
