Firefox 66 now available. We tell you all their news

Firefox Quantum

Firefox Quantum

Firefox 66 is now available for all supported systems i.e Windows, Linux and macOS. This is an important update that brings improvements, bug fixes and expected functions, such as one that will allow us to configure a block so that the multimedia content does not play by surprise, something very annoying that can lead to confusion or give us something to another scare. In this post we will show you all the news that comes to one of the most used browsers among the Linux community.

But the first thing I want to say is that not yet in APT repositories or the Snappy Store nor Flathub, where there is no version. Whoever wants to install it (on Linux) will have to download the code and install it manually. At the end of the article I will leave the download links for Linux. MacOS and Windows users will have it easier, in the case of Microsoft's system because it comes directly in an .exe or executable file.

What's New in Firefox 66

  • Autoplay lock: enabled by default, the new version of Firefox mutes multimedia content that plays sound. The option can be disabled from the settings (I wouldn't).
  • Search improvements: a search box has been added to browse in private mode.
  • El new Scroll prevents content from jumping when the page is loading.
  • To improve performance, increased content process from 4 to 8.
  • All the certificate error pages have been redesigned to make it easier to understand what's going on and allow users to make informed decisions.
  • Added basic support for macOS Touch Bar.
  • Some users might see a new tab page with Pocket stories in different layers. It is an experimental feature (and I who use Pocket am intrigued).
  • Has been added Windows Hello support so that users can enter websites with their face or fingerprint.
  • Windows 10 Firefox light and dark themes now overwrite the accent color of the top bar.
  • Fixed a bug in Linux versions that caused Firefox to freeze when downloading files.
  • Now you can assign new keyboard shortcuts to Firefox extensions.

As promised, by clicking on the following image you can download Firefox 66. Have you tried it yet? What can you tell us about him?

Lately in Ubuntu it takes a long time to get the update, then we will have to wait then. By the way, it happens to me that there is a moment when a tab is "hung" showing a loading wheel, then all the tabs that I have open are hung with the same wheel. Does anyone feel the same?.
