Firefox 67.0.1 now available, blocks web crawling by default

Firefox 67.0.1

In the past week we teach you how to prevent web pages from tracking us or mining cryptocurrencies by activating two new options for Firefox 67. To avoid incompatibilities, Mozilla decided to make these options disabled by default, telling us how to activate them so that we could test them without experiencing failures and knowing that we had activated them ourselves. But this will change with the release of Firefox 67.0.1, a version that is already available for Linux, macOS and Windows from its official website.

As we read in an entry on the Mozilla blog, the option is called Enhanced Tracking Protection and its purpose is to improve our privacy while we browse the internet. The decision to create this function was made due to the different scandals that showed that users are defenseless against this type of spyware. Mozilla believes that, to protect us, they need to set a new standard that prioritizes our privacy.

Enhanced Tracking Protection is enabled by default in Firefox 67.0.1

For users downloading Firefox 67.0.1, the option will be activated by default and will block third-party tracking cookies. Enhanced Tracking Protection will be practically invisible and we will only know that it is working when we visit a web page and see a shield on the left side of the address bar. When we see the icon we will know that Firefox is protecting us and, from there, we can make it stop doing so, in case a web page does not work as it should due to the protection effect.

For users who were already using Firefox, Mozilla will activate the function via OTA, so we will not have to do anything (if we have not already done so).

Latest Facebook Container blocks trackers from other websites

On the other hand, Mozilla has also updated its extension Facebook Container to prevent Facebook from following us on other websites that have embedded its functions, such as the share or Like buttons. Now, Firefox removes those buttons, so the company that Zuckerberg runs will not know that we have visited it and will not be able to continue creating a profile based on our preferences. This is especially good for those of us who are not in this social network.

It is proven, once again, that Firefox is one of the best if not the best web browser that exists. Do you think the same?

If to this we add Privacy Badger, Clear Cache, Lilo Protect. And of course delete some files and folders at startup. Of course, keep "do not remember history" activated (equivalent to using private browsing by default). Call me paranoid if you want. 😉
