I have looked out of curiosity, I have seen the update and it has surprised me: Firefox 66 is now available in the APT repositories. I was surprised because I thought that before it would appear in the Snappy Store, but the latest snap package available is from Firefox 65. Therefore, the fastest updates of the snap packages will be solely and exclusively from the app itself, as it can be done on Windows and macOS.
We remember that Firefox 66 comes with interesting news, such as the automatic playback blocked by default or the number of processes increased from 4 to 8, which only consumes 6% more memory when mathematics tells us that it should consume 100% more. What also is available from today is the first beta of Firefox 67 and then we will tell you the most outstanding news of a version that will arrive on May 14th.
What's new in Firefox 67
- Possibility of installing two or more versions of Firefox.
- Starting with Firefox 67, we will prevent us from installing old versions that can cause instability or data corruption.
- The next version will block cryptocurrency mining software. In case you don't know what this is, say that some software uses the resources of our computers to perform complex calculations to mine Bitcoins.
- Blocking traces in the browser thanks to the Content Blocking preferences.
- Ability to decide whether the newly installed extensions in private windows stay installed or not.
- Possibility of fixing tabs and importing data from another browser.
- Support for copying modified CSS code from the developer tools panel.
- Removed support for webcal.
The first novelty of the previous ones can be verified by simply downloading the beta and running it. If I remember correctly, doing the same with Firefox 66 opened the version that we already had installed, that is, Firefox 65. When we ran the file «firefox» from those downloaded in the beta a completely separate version will open and from the information of the settings we can confirm that it is Firefox 67. I installed firefox with snap on the duzeru distro that is based on debian, but it does not update to 66. Does snap take a longer time to update or do I have to do something?
