Firefox 69, this is what we know so far from this version

Firefox Quantum

Firefox Quantum

We are currently on version 67.0.2 of the browser from Mozilla "Firefox" which it is just a "branch" that has begun to unleash subversions since his release was just a little less than a month ago.

But even if we find ourselves under that branch, The people in charge of Firefox development don't just focus on improving and updating the "stable branch" they also offer a development version for testing which is introduced to later "stable" versions of the browser.

And even though the next branch of the browser that will be the "68.xx" is yet to come., preparations for the next one are already underway, that is why we share what is known so far for version 69 of Firefox.

What awaits us in version 69 of Firefox?

One of the main novelties that will arrive in this version of the browser is that Mozilla developers had already announced that they would disable the ability to play Flash content from default in this version.

And it is that this decision had already been launched in the nightly compilations of Firefox.

As of Firefox 69 the option to play flash content will be removed along with the Adobe Flash Player plugin settings and only the possibility remains to disable Flash and enable it for specific sites (explicit click activation) without saving the selected mode.

Flash support will continue in ESR versions of Firefox until the end of 2020.

A similar decision on Flash was made by Google and will take place in Chrome 76. Phasing out Flash support is in line with previously expressed Adobe's plan to end Flash technology permanently in 2020 .

Flash is still one of the last NPAPI-plugins that remained in Firefox after the translation of the NPAPI API to the deprecated category.

While support for Silverlight, Java, Unity, Gnome Shell Integration, and NPAPI plugins with multimedia codec support were discontinued in Firefox 52, (which was released in 2016).

Password generator and an autoplay lock mode

Others of the characteristics that will be offered for this version of Firefox and that can be tested in the nightly builds of Firefox is the arrival of a password generator to the browser.

Which is a very useful option when wanting to create a password, this in combination with a password manager can be quite comfortable for the user (although not all).

We can activate this function from about: config, in the option "signon.generation.available".

After activation in the password management section of the configurator, in addition to the option to enable the request to save passwords, an option will appear that allows you to display a suggestion with the secure password generated automatically when completing the registration forms.

The hint is currently shown only for fields with the attribute "autocomplete = new-password" but then it is possible to show it for other fields with passwords, for example, adding a call of the password generator via the context menu.

Of the other improvements developed for Firefox 69, eThere is a greater ability to block the automatic playback of multimedia content.

In addition to the previously added function to mute the played video automatically, the ability to completely stop video playback is realized, without just turning off the sound.

For example, if previous advertising videos were shown on the sites, but without sound, in the new mode, they will not even start playing without an explicit click.

To enable the mode in the automatic playback settings, just go to (Options> Privacy and security> Permissions> Autoplay), added a new item "Block audio and video", which complements the default mode "Block audio".

The mode can be selected in relation to specific sites through the context menu that is displayed by clicking the "(i)" button in the address bar.
