Firefox 70 will provide reports on how it is protecting us

Firefox 70

Less than two weeks ago, Mozilla released Firefox 68 and shortly after launched the beta of Firefox 69. But there is still a more advanced version, the following, Firefox 70, which is already available from your Nightly channel. The company has not yet given details on what news will arrive in the v70 of the fox browser, but yes we have known who continue to work on improving our protection and privacy. One of the new features in Firefox 70 will arrive in the form of reports.

If in Firefox 68 we put "about: protections" in the address bar (URL), it will tell us that this address is not correct; if we do it in Firefox 69 or 70, we will see a new page, which at the time of writing this article is in English, called "Privacy Protections", where we will see absolutely everything that the Enhanced Tracking Protection has blocked by Mozilla. On the same page, if we access it from Firefox v70, we will also see the security services of the Monitor company, to check if our data has been compromised, and Lockwise, its password manager.

Firefox 70 activates the page about: protections

In some media they claim that this page will be available from Firefox 70, but this is something that is not entirely clear. It can be accessed in Firefox 69, but there is a pair three differences:

  • In Firefox 69, information appears in lettered labels, while in Firefox 70, images appear.
  • In Firefox 70 the links to access Monitor and Lockwise have been added.
  • What Firefox 69 shows is not real information, but a still image that serves as an example.

The graph, once activated as in the v70 of the browser, will show us how our Firefox has protected us by telling us the total number of locks you have made and how many have been from social trackers, cookies between pages, content trackers, fingerprinters and cryptocurrency. For example, in my Nightly version that I have just tested, only 34 have blocked me, of which 4 have been cookies between pages and 30 content trackers. And that's just doing a test of less than two minutes.

about: logins, security for our passwords

Lockwise in Firefox

What does appear exclusively in Firefox 70 is the new page about: logins, which brings us to Firefox Lockwise without having to install your extension. In about: logins We will see our credentials (web, username and password) of the different web pages in which we are registered and in which we have entered (and saved the password) from Firefox. We can also access Lockwise from the hamburger / Logins and passwords menu.

Finally, Firefox 70 has eliminated the "i" icon from where we accessed certain information that in the future will be accessed from the protection shield that will be on the same site. Changes for our security, changes that we like.
