Firefox 74 confirmed to drop support for TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1

Firefox 74 Nightly

It had been rumored for a long time and now it is "official." If we use quotes it is because we are talking about something that is as official as it can be because it has already appeared, but in a version of a software that is still two months away from its launch. The rumor said that Firefox would soon drop support for TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1, and that is something that has started to happen in Firefox 74, the version of Mozilla's browser that is currently available on the channel Nightly.

Plans to drop support for TLS 1.0 / 1.1 are on the roadmap of most major browsers, including Google's Chrome / Chromium, Microsoft's Edge, and Apple's Safari, since 2018. The intention is to improve. the security and performance of internet connections. TLS 1.3 was released in 2018 and very soon after, companies like Mozilla or Google included support in their browsers.

Firefox 74 will no longer allow us to enter outdated websites

Starting with Firefox 74, as long as they don't back down from this plan, the browser will show as unsafe pages that have not been updated to TLS 1.3. This is something that will happen around the same time in Chrome / Chromium, Edge or Safari. But this can be Problem

When Firefox detects an unsafe page, it usually offers us the option to ignore the warning and also enter at our own risk. This is something that, at least in the latest Nightly version, will not be possible. Support has been completely removed and there is no option to go forward. In most cases, the websites have been updated to TLS 1.3 or will do so very soon, but this will make us impossible to enter old pages that have not yet been updated.

If we wanted to enter one of these pages, we should use an outdated browser because, it seems, Google, Microsoft, Apple and other companies will also completely remove support for TLS 1.0 / 1.1. Everything is for a safer internet.
