Firefox 75 arrives with the new address bar and improving HTTPS compatibility

Firefox 75

With the punctuality that characterizes it, since it was scheduled for today at noon, Mozilla just released Firefox 75. It is the latest major version of the browser and has arrived a few days after the v74.0.1, a minor update they released to fix two security flaws that were already exploiting. The new version includes new features, but the news lists are shorter since the company famous for the fox browser has gone on to release a new version every four weeks.

As we read in the News list, Firefox 75 locally caches all Web PKI Certificate Authority certificates known to Mozilla, which will improve HTTPS compatibility with misconfigured web servers. Furthermore, and this is more important, it includes improved address bar that will show links to the sites we visit the most, among other things. Below you have the complete list of news that has arrived with this version.

What's new in Firefox 75

  • Several improvements have been added that will help you search faster, all in the address bar:
    • Cleaner, more focused search experience that's optimized for smaller computer screens.
    • The most visited sites now appear when we select the bar.
    • Improved readability of search suggestions focused on new search terms.
    • The suggestions include solutions to common Firefox problems.
    • On Linux, the behavior of clicking the address bar and the search bar now matches the primary selection: a double click selects a word and a triple click selects the entire primary selection.
  • Firefox will store locally all the Web PKI Certificate Authority that Mozilla knows about. This will improve HTTPS compatibility with misconfigured web servers and improve security.
  • A Flatpak version is now available. Link to Flathub here. Tutorial on how to add support in Ubuntu, here.
  • Direct Compositions have been integrated for Windows users to help them improve performance and trigger the next job to deliver WebRender on Windows 10 computers and Intel graphics cards.

Firefox 75 It is now available for all supported systems from the official website, which you can access from this link. What Linux users can download from the previous link is the binary version of the browser, but it will soon reach the official repositories of most Linux distributions. The next version will already be a Firefox 76 that will land on May 5.
