Firefox 76 now available with improvements in Lockwise, its PIP and expanded WebRender

Firefox 76

After a Firefox 75 that has not received a single maintenance update, Mozilla has released Firefox 76. This is a major new release that includes new features, but not as many as before the update model change which is now four weeks old. Yes, there is good news again regarding WebRender, its rendering engine that is now also available on newer Intel laptops with a 1920 x 1200 screen, although only on Windows.

Another of the outstanding novelties is not that it is very important, although it is related to a function that is very liked such as the PIP: now it is possible to change between full screen mode and Picture-in-Picture by double clicking on the PIP window in the supported services. Below you have the complete list of news that has arrived with Firefox 76.

What's new in Firefox 76

As we read in the release note, Firefox 76 arrives with these changes

  • Lockwise improvements
    • Firefox displays critical alerts in Lockwise password manager when a website is breached;
    • If one of our accounts is involved in a website breach and we have used the same password on other websites, it will now ask us to update the password. A key icon identifies which accounts use that vulnerable password.
    • Ability to automatically generate complex and secure passwords for new accounts on more websites that are easily saved directly in the browser;
    • Passwords saved in Logins and Passwords can now be accessed and viewed easily in the main menu. If our device is shared between our family or roommates, the latest update helps to avoid casual spies. If we do not have a master password configured for Firefox, Windows and macOS it now requires logging into our operating system account before displaying our saved passwords.
  • Now when Picture-in-Picture is active with floating window, a double click can bring the small window to full screen. If we do double click again we will reduce the size again.
  • Firefox now supports Audio Worklets that will allow for more complex audio processing such as VR and web games. With this change, we can now join Zoom calls in Firefox without the need for additional downloads.
  • WebRender continues to roll out to more Firefox for Windows users, now available by default on modern Intel notebooks with a small screen (<= 1920 × 1200) for better graphics rendering.

Firefox 76 is now available for all supported systems from the official website that we can access from this link. What Linux users will download will be the binary version, but the version that is available in the official repositories of most Linux distributions will soon be updated. The versions of Flatub and Snapcraft.
