Firefox 92 arrives once again without AVIF support, but with news such as more secure connections

Firefox 92

Four weeks apart from the earlier version, as usual if there are no changes for some reason, Mozilla has launched a few minutes ago Firefox 92. Available since last Sunday in the Daily Build of Ubuntu 21.10 and since yesterday in the Mozilla repository, among the novelties that have been introduced, the highlights an absence, partly because it has already been delayed three times. We are talking about support for the AVIF image format.

MacOS users will especially benefit from the launch of Firefox 92, as they will now be able to open images containing ICC v4 profiles and take advantage of native sharing options from the Mozilla browser. Below you have the News list that have arrived with Firefox 92.

Highlights of Firefox 92

  • More secure connections: Firefox can now automatically update to HTTPS using HTTPS RR as Alt-Svc headers.
  • Full-range color levels are now supported for video playback on many systems.
• Mac users can now access macOS sharing options from the File menu in Firefox.
  • Support for images containing ICC v4 profiles has been enabled on macOS.
  • Firefox performance with screen readers and other accessibility tools is no longer severely degraded if Mozilla Thunderbird is installed or updated after Firefox.
  • MacOS VoiceOver now correctly reports buttons and links marked "expanded" using the aria-expanded attribute.
  • An open alert on one tab no longer causes performance issues on other tabs that use the same process.
  • Bookmark toolbar menus on macOS now follow Firefox visual styles.
  • The certificate error pages have been redesigned to improve the user experience.
  • Work continues to restructure Firefox's JavaScript memory management to be more efficient and use less memory.

Firefox 92 has been officially launched, so any user can download it from the Official Site. As always, from there Linux users can download the binaries, and soon we will be able to install their flatpak and snap packages from Flathub and Snapcraft respectively. If we prefer to use the version of the official repositories, we will still have to wait hours or some day until our distribution adds the new packages.
