Foliate 2.2.0, one more update for this eBook reader

AboutFoliate 2.2.0

In the next article we are going to take a look at Foliate 2.2.0. The ebook reader Foliate has been updated adding support for more book formats, including comic archives. It also now offers a new library view, in which we can discover free e-books.

The Foliate project is a free and open source GTK ebook reader for Gnu / Linux. This book reader will allow users to view e-book files using multiple layouts: single column, two columns, or continuous scrolling.

Additionally, this version features a reading progress slider with title marks, bookmarks, annotations, leading, brightness, custom themes, keyboard shortcuts, and touchpad gestures. It also offers the ability to open footnotes and look up words using Wiktionary or Wikipedia.

General characteristics of Foliate 2.2.0

Foliate 2.2.0 Preferences

  • Previously the app only supported EPUB e-book formats (.epub, .epub3), Kindle (.azw, .azw3) and Mobipocket (. Mobi). Foliate 2.2.0 adds in addition to the above, support for new book formats, including FictionBook (.fb2, .fb2.zip), comics archive (.cbr, .cbz, .cbt, .cb7) and plain text (.txt).
  • This version also offers us a library view where we can find recent books and the progress of our readings. In addition, it is also possible to search for books by metadata in the library.
  • The library view comes with another important feature, which is the ability to discover e-books. This is done using OPDS (Open Publication Distribution System), a syndication format for electronic publications based on Atom and HTTP. Now we can browse and download free e-books using this new feature.

A great program to read Ebooks and other formats
(I do not recommend installing in snaps, rather directly from the repository or in flatpak)

I can't install it on Ubuntu 20.04. It marks an error with download, via repository and with Snap it stays working ... I hope they solve it, it is a very good program ...
