In the next article we are going to take a look at the Fotoxx editor. This is a free, open source program for basic image editing. Is about a GTK application with which we can also organize and manage a large collection of images, optimize photos and perform batch operations. If you are looking for a lightweight photo editing and management application for Gnu / Linux, Fotoxx is a free and open source software option that is fast and well worth a try. The goal of this program is to meet the needs of professional and amateur photographers. Despite all the options it offers, these do not make it stop being fast and that it can get you out of some trouble.
Fotoxx is compliant with standards and can be used with other photographic programs. This program is easy to use, but unconventional. For this reason it is interesting read the user guide before you start using it. Fotoxx is packed with features, so don't expect to master it in just a few minutes.
General characteristics of Fotoxx

- Unlike other image editors, this has all its menus on the left panel with ability to toggle file view and edit photos.

- It will also give us the option to select an object or area within an image (draw freehand, follow edges, match flood tones ...), Apply edit functions, copy and paste, resize, merge, warp, etc. without wearing layers. We can also blur, sharpen or eliminate noise, adjust the color, etc.
- The program will allow us edit image metadata (tags, geotags, dates, ratings, subtitles ...).
- It will give us the option of search for images using any combination of metadata, file names, folders, or partial names.
- Fotoxx uses our image files where they are and maintains a separate index for quick search.

Install Fotoxx on Ubuntu 20.04 via PPA
If you are interested in installing the latest published version of Fotoxx, Ubuntu users can use the PPA compatible with Ubuntu 20.04, Linux Mint 20 and Ubuntu 21.04. We will only need to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and execute the following command to add the PPA to our system:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xtradeb/apps
Once the list of software available from the repositories available on our computer has been updated, the next thing we will have to do is launch this other command to install this photo management software:
sudo apt install fotoxx
When the installation is finished we can find the program launcher on our computer to start using it.

uninstall
To remove the Ubuntu PPA, you simply have to go to the Software & Updates utility, and in it select the Other software tab. There we will only need to mark the repository line and delete it by pressing the «Remove» button.
To eliminate the PPA, we can also open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and run the command:
sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:xtradeb/apps
Now we can uninstall Fotoxx. In a finish (Ctrl + Alt + T) we only need to execute the command:
sudo apt remove --auto-remove fotoxx
