Franz adds an important improvement in its latest version: add custom websites ... but it's not free

Add personalized service in Franz

There are many web services that have their own app and many of these apps are for Linux. But what if there is no such app? The simplest solution is to enter the service from the browser, something that, if we want to enjoy the best user experience, we have to do in services like Twitter. There are also other options such as Franz, a messaging app which has received a major update.

The update is so important from my point of view that I have doubted whether to label the app as "messaging". And it is that Franz 5.2.0, the penultimate version released in the middle of last month, corrected several bugs and Anadio an important function: now allows us to add custom websites. The problem, one that seems as important to me as the update, is that the function is paid.

Adding a custom website to Franz 5.2.x will cost you € 4 per month

Taking into account that I have not tried it because I have not subscribed, I cannot guarantee 100% that the process to add a custom website to Franz 5.2.0 and later is very simple. From what it seems, having added the function to the app, you only have to use the tool that they have enabled. What we can see without paying when trying to add a service is a new option called "Custom Website". By selecting it we see that we can add a name, configure the options (notifications, balloons, etc.) and the possibility of adding a photo. What we also see very clearly is a blue banner that says "To add your own services, you need a Franz Premium Collaborator Account", which has a price of € 4 / month or € 36 / year. If I'm not mistaken, the poster disappears when we subscribe and the options to add personalized services will appear instead.

With all of the above, the news leaves us with a bittersweet taste: on the one hand, Franz allows us to add the web services we want, but on the other we have to pay. In any case, always we can use the trick which we explain en Ubunlog a few weeks ago, which is nothing more than a shortcut or a simplified version of what they explain on their official website. Will you pay to use this new Franz feature?
