Franz is now available as a Flatpak pack on Flathub

Franz on Flathub

A few weeks ago we publish an article in which we recommended adding support for Flatpak packages in Ubuntu. And we already said it, that we would open ourselves "to a world of possibilities." I think most of us still prefer to use the classic DEB packages or APT versions, but the options never hurt and, for example, I install the GIMP Snap because in Kubuntu the APT version appears in English (whatever I do and even which decides to upgrade). And not only that, but there are programs like French which are only available on Flathub.

In fairness I have to say no, Franz is not only available on Flathub. It is available as a DEB package and in AppImage, but the only version that we can update from the software center once the support is added is Flatpak. There is no official APT repository, there is also no Snap package and the application does not update automatically if there is no repository behind it. At most, it warns us that there is a version available and provides us with a link.

Franz has been updated to version 5.1.0

Speaking of updates, Franz updated to version 5.1.0 on April 25 and most outstanding news They are paid functions, such as Workspaces that will allow us to separate between personal use, work or whatever we need. The other new function, also paid, is team management.

As a comparison between the DEB and Flatpak versions, each version has its good points and bad points. The good thing about the DEB version is that we can access the "recipes" folder, edit the service you want and have, for example, Twitter Lite in Franz. I've been looking for that folder in the Flatpak version path for a while and I haven't found it. On the other hand, when I uninstalled Franz to test the Flatpak version, I have found that he has also eliminated about 10 dependencies, something that does not install in a Snap package or in a Flatpak. In my case, not finding the folder to add the services that I want, I have returned to the DEB version.

UPDATED: The recipe path in the Flatpak version is ~ / .var / app / com.meetfranz.Franz / config / Franz / recipes. Once found, I'll stick with the Flatpak version.

How about Franz being available as a Flatpak package?
