Basingstoke is now free for Linux; soon the rest of Puppygames games

Basingstoke

Basingstoke

I remember many years ago a video in which two characters representing Windows and Mac asked the character who played Linux what his favorite game was. Linux would tell them that he didn't really like to play games and Windows and Mac would laugh at him. How did that video end? Linux was farting and Windows and Mac were hanging. That was the reality then, but now there are already many games on Linux, such as Basingstoke by Puppygames.

I think it is important to talk about the issue of little use of Linux in games for its market share. The vast majority of "gamers" use Windows and a few do so from Mac. The number is even more reduced when we talk about Linux. In my opinion, that's why Puppygames has made Basingstoke free, but this good news will get even better in the future: Puppygames has promised that all their games will be free for Linux. This is something that will happen in the next few months and they will upload them to itch.io.

Basingstoke is priced at $ 24.95 on Windows / Mac

For Windows and Mac users, Basingstoke is priced at $ 24.95. Its price is the same as that of similar games on any video game platform. A very important launch is usually around € 50-60, while other more discreet or older ones are around € 20-30 (closer to 30 than 20). The game was launched in April of last year and with the following video you can get an idea of what it is like.

Although the game is free, we remember that only for Linux, Puppygames accept donations. This is something that Canonical also accepts, for example, and few usually make use of this possibility, but I have always said that if we like something we have to help the developers. If we hack everything or never collaborate, developers / musicians / actors / etc cannot continue to do what we like and we lose too. That is why I am subscribed to a streaming music service.

Of course, in this specific case we cannot say that Puppygames is going to be ruined and I am sure that this move is a marketing strategy: If Linux users download their games, like them and talk about them, it is more likely that Windows and Mac users will end up buying them. On the other hand, they will always get something from donations.

Basingstoke is a Survival Horror type game

Basingstoke is a Survival Horror on third person where the player must escape on foot from the invasion of the dead aliens, for which he will have to use his ingenuity and cunning. The main objective is to escape from the city of Basingstoke and get everything we can. That is exactly what we would have to do in real life in the face of a similar threat: "For himself who can" looting everything we can to survive.

You have to take into account something important: the protagonist of this game does not have a life bar as in other titles. What does this mean? What we will die when they touch us. This is something that reminds me of the games of the old consoles, where the games had lives and the game ended when we were killed in the last one. In the older ones there was not even the option to continue.

Requirements to play Basingstoke

Like any other software, you need a computer with minimum requirements to be able to enjoy a game. In Basingstoke, the recommended minimum is the following:

  • Intel CPU: Intel Core i3-2115C 2.0GHz
  • amd cpu: AMD Athlon II X3 455

  • AMD Graphics Card:AMD Radeon HD 7570
